Leiblichkeit & Sexualität

Votivkirche, Vienna, Austria, 2014
Curated by David Rastas

Visitors were invited to place flowers, letters, candles and soft toys to remember and offer prayers for those who have been victims of abuse. The shrine was installed beneath the Mauthausen stained glass windows which may direct one toward offering thoughts and prayers to victims of the holocaust. Positioned directly in front of a stone walled confessional room, the interactive artwork allowed for participation in a form of shared reconciliation. In the context of an exhibition on the body and sexuality, the shrine was a place to pray specifically for victims of sexual abuse in the Church and to work toward healing trauma.
