Leiblichkeit & Sexualität

Votivkirche, Vienna, Austria, 2014
Curated by David Rastas

The illuminated box in the northern side aisle is an architectural scale model for an Anechoic Chamber in which the visitor would be confronted with nothing but the sounds of their interior. The echo-free room is designed to absorb reflections of sound waves and is insulated from exterior sources of noise. In such a space, attention shifts toward the inner physiology as blood can be heard gently pumping through the head and a high-pitched hiss can be detected as a result of spontaneous firings of the auditory nerve. The experience is certainly both strange and unnerving - hearing the body communicate with its internal rhythms.
